Trump Sparks Concern with Oval Office ‘2028’ Stunt

Donald Trump has stirred fresh controversy after hinting at a potential 2028 presidential run—despite being constitutionally barred from seeking a third term under the 22nd Amendment.
The 79-year-old, who already won the White House in 2016 and again in 2024, fueled speculation on September 29 when he posted a photo on Truth Social showing himself in the Oval Office surrounded by “Trump 2028” hats. The image was reportedly taken during a meeting with Democratic leaders meant to address the looming government shutdown.
Jeffries Responds
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries blasted the stunt, calling Trump “unserious” and accusing Republicans of avoiding good-faith negotiations. Speaking on CNN, Jeffries added:
“The erratic behavior we’ve seen should make clear who is pushing us toward a government shutdown.”
Shutdown Tensions Rise
The controversy came just as officials confirmed the first government shutdown since 2018–2019. Critics argue Trump’s antics have only heightened tensions in Washington, adding fuel to an already volatile political climate.
