John Roberts Delights Fans With Uplifting Update on His Recovery From Malaria

Fox News anchor John Roberts is back — and instead of breaking headlines, he’s breaking into song.
Nearly a month after being hospitalized with a rare and dangerous case of malaria, the America Reports host shared a playful 30-second clip that instantly lifted fans’ spirits.
🎶 “A little ‘Jessie’s Girl’ to get the blood moving”
In the video posted on X, Roberts strums Rick Springfield’s 1981 hit Jessie’s Girl with a big grin, showing off his rhythm and sense of humor. His caption was simple but cheerful: “A little ‘Jessie’s Girl’ to get the blood moving this morning.”
For those who followed his frightening health battle, the lighthearted moment carried extra weight. Just weeks earlier, Roberts was fighting through fever, chills, and extreme fatigue in a Virginia hospital bed. Now, he looked healthy, relaxed, and clearly on the mend.

🌍 From Vacation to Diagnosis
Roberts contracted malaria during a family trip to Indonesia in late August. Days after returning to the U.S., he began experiencing what he thought was the flu: exhaustion, body aches, and uncontrollable chills.
But a trip to the ER revealed the truth — his platelet and white blood cell counts had dropped sharply, confirming he had malaria. He was quickly admitted to Inova Fairfax Hospital, where he underwent intensive treatment for nearly a week.
“I was a little scared,” Roberts later admitted. “I’ve never felt that sick in my life.”
He credits his wife, ABC News correspondent Kyra Phillips, for quickly connecting with a malaria expert in Malawi who helped guide his care.
It’s been such a hellacious couple of weeks….needed a bit of a release. An intro solo I have wanted to learn since the 70s, but only just now got around to. pic.twitter.com/cU0Y6ZPOnR

💪 On the Road to Recovery
By early September, Roberts was back home, though still dealing with exhaustion and temperature swings. His latest guitar post, however, shows major progress — and fans noticed immediately.
“Looking good, Mr. Roberts!” one fan wrote. Another added: “Awesome! Your playing is impressive… your timing is spot on.” Others simply expressed joy at seeing him healthy again: “Glad you are feeling better! Good to see you back home.”
For Roberts, a little music was more than just fun — it was a sign of resilience after a harrowing experience. And for fans, it was the best update yet: their favorite anchor smiling, strumming, and healing.
