Ohio Grandfather’s Attorney Urges Patience as Community Reels From Child Neglect Case

Investigators reported that the living environment was worse than what is typically seen for farm animals, with structural decay so severe that the youngsters were in constant danger of falling through the flooring.
Authorities detailed that the children were confined to a single room measuring roughly 12 by 12 feet, which was heavily soiled with human waste. The physical and developmental state of the children was also a major concern. Some of the minors were reportedly unable to speak, and the oldest child could not spell her name.
Medical Response and Long-Term Isolation
The severity of the situation required immediate medical intervention. Two of the children were transported by air to specialized trauma facilities due to the extent of their injuries. Seven additional children were taken to regional hospitals for evaluation. One minor’s condition was critical enough to warrant admission to an intensive care unit, where they required a ventilator to breathe.
Law enforcement officials believe the children were kept confined to the property for roughly four years. However, they suspect that the pattern of isolation and mistreatment may have persisted for a much larger portion of the children’s lives.

The four accused individuals are Gary Siders Sr., who is 73 years old, along with Gary Siders Jr., Christina Siders, and Elizabeth Siders. All four have entered pleas of not guilty to the charges brought against them. If convicted on each of the 17 counts, they could potentially face sentences ranging from two to twelve years in prison for every single charge.
