He Went on a Beach Vacation, While His Pregnant Wife Was Sent to Dig in the Garden — And When He Returned…

Sent Away
When Sasha zipped up his beach bag, sunglasses glinting in the sun, he brushed past Lika’s swollen belly.
“Come on, I need a break too,” he said lightly.
“A break?” Lika whispered. “I’m six months pregnant… and you’re sending me to your mother’s village to dig potatoes?”
“Fresh air will do you good. And Mom could use the help,” he replied, already walking out the door.
By the time Lika arrived in the countryside, her mother-in-law shoved a rusty shovel into her hands.
“Bet you wore him out. Now you’re my problem.”
Under the scorching sun, Lika’s back ached, her ankles swelled, but she kept digging. At night, she overheard her mother-in-law sneer to a neighbor:
“She’s soft. Back in my day, we gave birth in the fields and went right back to work.”
Lika said nothing. She saved her strength for her baby.
The Homecoming
A week later, Sasha returned tanned, carefree, tossing his suitcase on the couch.
“Lika! The water was turquoise, you should’ve seen it. Next time, we’ll go together, yeah?”
She looked at him blankly.
“I’m leaving, Sasha.”
He laughed. “Don’t be dramatic. You won’t last a week without me.”
But she only smiled quietly.
“We’ll see.”
And she walked out—with nothing but her purse, her pride, and the child growing inside her.
Starting Over
She had no plan, only determination. When her old friend Oksana heard, she opened her door without hesitation.
“You’re staying with me. Don’t argue.”
For the first time in months, Lika slept in peace.
Sasha panicked. He called, begged, waited outside. Finally, she picked up.
“Lika, I’m sorry. Please… for the baby.”
She asked softly, “Do you miss me… or just the life you lost?”
Silence.
“I loved you…” he started.
“And I forgot how to love myself while I was with you,” she said. Then she hung up.
New Beginnings
Childbirth was hard, but when Lika held her baby boy, every sacrifice was worth it.
She worked, leaned on friends, and rebuilt her life piece by piece.
Sasha returned one last time, holding gifts and promises.
“I’ve changed,” he said.
“You can be in your son’s life,” Lika replied firmly. “But I’m not coming back.”
For once, he had no words. He left quietly.
Lika closed the door, her child in her arms.
Ahead of her waited something she hadn’t felt in years—freedom.
