In one of the year’s most talked-about political moments, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) filmed herself nearly in tears inside her car, venting about the passage of what she called a “morally wrong” Republican-backed bill.
The legislation, nicknamed the Big, Beautiful Bill (BBB) by GOP lawmakers, was celebrated as a conservative victory after it cut funding from several major social programs—including taxpayer-funded healthcare benefits that didn’t require able-bodied recipients to work. Republicans hailed it as long-overdue fiscal responsibility. Democrats, however, condemned it as an attack on working families and low-income Americans.
Warren’s emotional video quickly went viral. “Leaving the Senate now at the end of the vote, when the Republicans won—they cheered,” she said, visibly shaken. “They cheered over taking away healthcare from 17 million people. They cheered over giving huge tax breaks to billionaires. They cheered over running up the national debt by another three and a half trillion dollars.”
Her voice broke as she continued, calling the bill “economically bad” and “morally wrong,” before adding, “But we stay in the fight. We stay in the fight, and we proved why we stay in the fight.”
