Before becoming the poised First Lady of the United States, Melania Trump — born Melanija Knavs — led a quiet, private life far from the spotlight. She grew up in the small town of Sevnica, Slovenia, and later moved to Ljubljana to study design. At 17, she began modeling, which took her to international fashion hubs such as Milan and Paris, eventually settling in New York City.
Melania’s life changed in 1998 when she met Donald Trump at a Fashion Week party hosted by Paolo Zampolli, who managed her modeling career. Although Trump arrived with another woman, he was instantly drawn to Melania and asked for her number. According to close friend Edit Molnar, Melania refused, saying, “He’s here with a woman.” Known as a “homebody,” she rarely dated, preferring quiet nights alone over parties. Zampolli noted that before meeting Trump, she spent much of her time at the gym or watching movies by herself. Despite appearing on a massive Camel cigarette billboard in Times Square, Melania led a modest and reserved lifestyle.
