Career Highlights and Legacy

Doug Martin’s career was defined by hard work, determination, and unforgettable performances. His 251-yard, four-touchdown game against the Oakland Raiders in 2012 earned him his first Pro Bowl selection and cemented his reputation as a dynamic force on the field.

Over six seasons with the Buccaneers and a final year with the Raiders in 2018, Martin totaled 5,356 rushing yards and 30 touchdowns across 84 games. A two-time Pro Bowler and 2015 first-team All-Pro, he left a lasting mark on the NFL.

Martin’s famous nickname, the “Muscle Hamster,” originated in college. In a 2012 interview, he explained that it started with his Boise State girlfriend, a gymnast, whom a teammate jokingly called a muscle hamster. Martin defended her, and the nickname was eventually applied to him as well.

Martin’s passing leaves a deep void in the NFL community and among fans who admired his skill, grit, and humility. Rest in peace, Doug Martin — gone far too soon, but never forgotten.
