Bikers Save Missing Hiker Found Wandering in Idaho Backcountry

A group of mountain bikers is being hailed as heroes after rescuing Heather Wayment, a missing hiker found wandering in the rugged Idaho wilderness. Heather, reported missing on September 17, had left her vehicle in the Prairie Creek area of Blaine County and disappeared without a trace.

Tommy Gwinn, one of the bikers, recalled, “We stopped as she was obviously in bad shape. She didn’t want help at first. She was scared and very guarded.” It took about half an hour before Heather shared her name and revealed she was lost. At the time, the bikers didn’t even know a search had already begun.

Shortly after, three dirt bikers discovered the group and recognized Heather as the missing hiker. They provided food and support while trying to pinpoint their location in the remote wilderness.
