Life brought Dan Haggerty both joy and sorrow. In 2008, his wife Samantha suffered a devastating motorcycle accident. With severe brain injuries, she could not survive, and Haggerty faced the heartbreaking decision to let her go. “It was the hardest, most heartbreaking decision I’ve ever had to make… I wept like a child,” he later recalled.

Even later in life, tragedy continued. In August 2015, he was diagnosed with spinal cancer. Despite his fight, he passed away on January 15, 2016, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, resilience, and unforgettable cinematic magic.

His longtime friend Terry Bomar recounted their final conversation: “I told him I loved him, and the last words I heard him say were ‘I love you.’”

Dan Haggerty wasn’t just Grizzly Adams; he was a pioneer, a gentle soul, and a man whose love for life, family, and animals will be remembered for generations. RIP, Dan Haggerty — your legacy lives on.
