Breaking: Over 60 Kids Buried Under Collapsed Boarding School in Indonesia

A devastating collapse at the Al Khoziny Islamic Boarding School in Sidoarjo, East Java, left dozens of students and staff trapped under rubble. The tragedy occurred on Monday, September 29, as students gathered for prayer.
Three pupils have been confirmed dead, and around 101 others were hospitalized with injuries ranging from broken bones to trauma. Parents waited anxiously as rescue teams combed through the debris. “Oh my God… my son is still buried,” one mother cried, desperate for news of her child.
Students described the chaos as the building began to crumble. Thirteen-year-old Muhammad Rijalul Qoib said roof debris fell on him, but he managed to escape. Another student, Sofa, witnessed many of his classmates suffering severe injuries.
Search and rescue teams reported hearing cries and shouts from beneath the unstable structure. “We have to proceed carefully,” said officer Nanang Sigit, emphasizing the dangerous conditions. The collapsed building has taken on a “pancake-type” shape, with layers of concrete leaving only narrow voids where survivors might still be trapped.
Authorities suspect the collapse was caused by illegal construction of two additional floors on an old foundation that could not support the weight. Investigations into the cause are ongoing.
Social media users expressed grief and concern: “I hope by some miracle these children survive,” wrote one. “My heart aches for the families caught in this tragedy,” commented another.
