Lesley Joseph has shared a deeply emotional update about her dear friend and Birds of a Feather co-star, Pauline Quirke, revealing that the beloved actress is “not okay now” as she continues her battle with dementia. Lesley, 80, spoke candidly in a recent interview with Bella Magazine, offering a rare glimpse into Pauline’s private struggle.
“Pauline is not too well after being diagnosed with dementia a while ago,” Lesley said. “She’s not okay now. I haven’t had time, but I’m going to go up and see her next week.”
The two actresses, along with their longtime friend Linda Robson, captured hearts across the UK with their chemistry in Birds of a Feather, one of Britain’s most cherished sitcoms. Pauline, now 66, was diagnosed with dementia earlier this year, and her family has been focusing on her care and comfort ever since.
Lesley, who has long been protective of Pauline’s privacy, had previously spoken about her admiration for her co-star’s career. Appearing on Good Morning Britain earlier this year, she said warmly, “What a wonderful actress she is and what joy she has given — not just in Birds of a Feather but in The Sculptress, where she was really scary, and in Broadchurch and Emmerdale. I take my hat off to Pauline. She’s amazing. I won’t talk about her at the moment with her illness because that’s private.”
